Isolated from the whole plants of Geum japonicum, it exhibits activity against HIV-1 protease. It has a role as a metabolite and a HIV protease inhibitor. It is a diol, a secondary alpha-hydroxy ketone, a pentacyclic triterpenoid and an oxo monocarboxylic acid. It derives from a hydride of an ursane.
