Muristerone A is a 6-oxo steroid that is 5beta-cholest-7-en-6-one substituted by hydroxy groups at positions 2, 3, 5, 11, 14, 20 and 22 respectively (the 2beta,3beta,5beta,11alpha,14alpha,20R,22R-stereoisomer). It is a phytoecdysteroid produced by the kaladana plant Ipomoea calonyction. It has a role as a protein synthesis inhibitor and a plant metabolite. It is an 11alpha-hydroxy steroid, a phytoecdysteroid, a 3beta-sterol, a 20-hydroxy steroid, a 2beta-hydroxy steroid, a 14alpha-hydroxy steroid, a 22-hydroxy steroid, a 6-oxo steroid and a 5beta-hydroxy steroid. It derives from a hydride of a 5beta-cholestane.
