Mithramycin is a carbohydrate-containing antibiotic, a secondary alpha-hydroxy ketone, a carbotricyclic compound, an anthracycline antibiotic and an aureolic acid. It has a role as an antineoplastic agent, an EC 2.7.7.6 (RNA polymerase) inhibitor and a bacterial metabolite. It is functionally related to a mithramycin DK.
