Tyramine is a primary amino compound obtained by formal decarboxylation of the amino acid tyrosine. It has a role as a neurotransmitter, an EC 3.1.1.8 (cholinesterase) inhibitor, a mouse metabolite, an Escherichia coli metabolite and a human metabolite. It is a monoamine molecular messenger, a member of tyramines and a primary amino compound. It is a conjugate base of a tyraminium.
