Azaserine is a carboxylic ester resulting from the formal condensation of the carboxy group of diazoacetic acid with the alcoholic hydroxy group of L-serine. An antibiotic produced by a Streptomyces species. It has a role as a glutamine antagonist, a metabolite, an antimicrobial agent, an antimetabolite, an antineoplastic agent, an immunosuppressive agent and an antifungal agent. It is a carboxylic ester, a diazo compound, a non-proteinogenic L-alpha-amino acid and a L-serine derivative.
