It has a role as a neuroprotective agent, a nephroprotective agent and an EC 3.4.22.36 (caspase-1) inhibitor. It is an organochlorine compound and a tetrapeptide. It is functionally related to a L-valine, a L-alanine, a L-aspartic acid and a N-acetyl-L-tyrosine.
