It is an allosteric agonist of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7). It has a role as a metabotropic glutamate receptor agonist and a neuroprotective agent. It is a member of benzenes, a diamine, a secondary amino compound and a diarylmethane. It is a conjugate base of a N,N'-bis(diphenylmethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine(2+).
