Isolated from Eurycoma longifolia and Simaba multiflora, it exhibits cytotoxic activity towards human cancer cell lines. It has a role as a metabolite, an antineoplastic agent and an antiplasmodial drug. It is an aromatic ether, an organic heterotetracyclic compound and an indole alkaloid.
