Anticapsin is an alanine derivative that is L-alanine bearing a 5-oxo-7-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-2-yl substituent at position 3. It has a role as an antimicrobial agent, an antimetabolite, a bacterial metabolite and an EC 2.6.1.16 (glutamine--fructose-6-phosphate transaminase (isomerizing)) inhibitor. It is an epoxide, an alicyclic ketone, a non-proteinogenic L-alpha-amino acid and a L-alanine derivative. It is a tautomer of an anticapsin zwitterion.
