It is a component of bee glue and has been isolated from several plant species including Betula exilis, Zingiber mekongense and Alpinia flabellata. It has a role as an antioxidant and a plant metabolite. It is a dimethoxyflavone, a member of flavonols and a dihydroxyflavone. It is functionally related to a kaempferol. It is a conjugate acid of a 7,4'-O-dimethylkaempferol 3-olate.
