Aureoquinone is a naphthoquinone that is 1,4-naphthoquinone substituted by hydroxy groups at positions 2, 5, 7,and 8 and methyl groups at positions 3 and 6. It is isolated from surface cultures of Aureobasidium and acts as a protease inhibitor. It has a role as a metabolite, an antibacterial agent and a protease inhibitor. It is a hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone and a member of phenols.
